- Why simplicity works...
-
Simplicity in design makes the objective of the web site or application clearer.
Give it a little K.I.S.S.: Applying some simplicity to a site structure and its elements, layout and design, provide the visitor the information and direction for reaching the intended goal of the site quickly and without frustration.
- Focus on what is important...
-
A lot of good design concepts are inherently obvious. This is one that gets easily overlooked.
If there isn't a good reason for adding some bit of flashy imagery or interactivity, then why do it? What value does it provide?
Focus on the content and what the objective is and a good design will deliver return visits.
- Methods to the madness...
There are lots of standards for good practices and reasons for doing things a certain way in designing a website. Some may seem superfluous, but they have been tried and found true time and time again.
Some examples include design patterns, such as the Yahoo! Design Pattern Library, symantic markup for layout/writing the site, and infographics (icons, and imagery that provide simple information about the intention for smaller sections of information or interactivity)
